There was a time when I backslid into the sins that God had delivered me from. I will never forget how I felt when it initially happened-I felt so low and disappointed within myself. I couldn’t believe what I had done; I had walked right back into the sin that God had delivered me from. I started to feel so far away from God; and in a desperate attempt to feel God’s presence again I began to sing and worship Him. But something tried to hold me back from worshipping-something was telling me that I was a hypocrite and that I wasn’t worthy enough to worship/praise God.
This had to have been the enemy telling me this! As I kept on singing and worshipping God, this thought came to me: No matter how wrong or unworthy I may be, God is ALWAYS worthy of all the honor, glory, and praise! Even though I had messed up, even though I had been moved-God is never moved, God is never shaken, and He never changes! Hebrews 13:8 (New King James Version) says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” No sin that I commit is going to change the fact that God is GOOD and WORTHY of my praise!
I’m sharing this with you because I know from experience that temptation will probably come at you even stronger, now that you have made up your mind to live for God. There will be days that you have no problem standing fast on God’s Word and resisting temptation; but there may come a day that you fall short and backslide into sin. Backsliding is by no means a good thing; but I’m here to tell you that it’s not the end of the world or the end of your faith! When we fall short, God’s grace covers us (Romans 5:20, NKJV). Romans 3:23-24 (NKJV) says that we have all sinned and fallen short but it is through Jesus Christ that we are forgiven.
Now don’t get me wrong, we are not to abuse God’s grace by intentionally sinning just because we know we can ask God for forgiveness (Romans 6:1-2, NKJV). We should make a serious effort to do what’s right but at times when we do get weak and do wrong, God’s grace and forgiveness is indeed there for us. So if you backslide into sin please don’t panic! Just don’t stay there in the sin!
Be quick to acknowledge your wrong and go to God in prayer, asking Him to forgive you. Ask Him to also give you an extra portion of strength to help you resist temptation the next time it may present itself. Once you have done this, jump right back into feeding the Holy Spirit within you by reading and mediating on God’s word, praying, and doing His good work. And of course, don’t stop praising and worshipping Him! No matter what we have done God still deserves all the honor, glory, and praise!
As always, I pray that these words have blessed you; and I encourage you to study the scriptures for yourself and ask God for understanding! Like/Comment/Follow/Share if you were blessed by these words!
