Writing God’s Word on Your Heart

Proverbs 7:1-3 (New King James Version) instructs us to write God’s Law or Word on our hearts. Writing God’s Word on your heart simply means to know it so well that you don’t need a Bible right in front of you to meditate upon it or speak it over your life. When God’s Word is written on your heart no one can take it from you; and you have access to it at all times.

Perhaps you’re at work being tested by a coworker or at the store being tested by a cashier, in these moments you may not have the luxury of just flipping out the Bible right there and finding a scripture to calm your spirit. At these moments you will need a Word written on your heart, imprinted on your mind, to keep you from doing or saying something you shouldn’t do or say.

Perhaps a sickness may come upon you so strongly that you don’t even have the strength to pick up the Bible to read it! Again, this is a time that you will need a Word already written on your heart to strengthen and comfort you!

You see, God’s Word is our weapon! Ephesians 6:17 calls the Word of God the SWORD of the Spirit.  We are talking about the same Word that causes things to be brought into existence; remember it was God’s Word that was spoke into nothing and created this whole world! His Word is indeed a powerful weapon!

Some people keep PHYSICAL weapons like guns or knives with them at all times for protection. However, believers of Christ, who walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh, should keep their SPIRITUAL weapon (the Word of God) with them at all times! And what better way to keep the Word of God with us at all times than to write it on our hearts that no man, no storm, no trial can take it away?!

Say this short prayer:

God help me to write your Word on my heart! Let your Word be imprinted on my mind and deeply rooted in my heart. When tests and trials come, let your Word remain within my heart that I may remember it and take comfort from it. And help me to continually mediate upon your Word and speak it over my life. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

-To God be the Glory
