Laying Distractions Aside: Put Down the Phone and Pick Up God

In today’s world there are so many distractions; and these CELLPHONES of ours are perhaps one of our biggest distractions! Constant calls, emails, Facebook notifications, and text messages keep our hands glued to our phones instead of our Bibles! The time we spend on our phones talking to our best friends about our problems, we could be using that to search our Bibles for scriptures to speak over our problems.

The time we spend looking at and judging other people’s lives on Facebook, we could be using that to get our own lives together by studying God’s Word and seeking His direction. The Apostle Paul declares that NOTHING shall separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39, New King James Version)! Letting our phones separate us from God, that sounds ridiculous right?! But the truth is: it’s happening every day.

We are so DILIGENT in using our phones but the Word of God urges us to be diligent and persistent about seeking Him! Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) tells us that God is indeed a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him by faith. So put down that phone for an hour or so; put it in another room or shove it in a drawer. Use that time to quietly think upon the Word, study the Word, pray, or sing praises unto God!

Your distraction may not be your cellphone; it may be television, food, or even a toxic relationship. Whatever it is, I guarantee you that if you lay that distraction aside and continually seek God with a pure heart, He will show up and change some things in your life!

Say this prayer:

Lord, help me to put nothing before you! Help me to block out all distractions and be more diligent in seeking you. Help me to study your Word, pray, and spend more time getting in touch with you God. And I pray that in my diligence, you will reward me according to your perfect will. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen!

-To God be the Glory

  1. Amen! These cellphones and social media are major distractions. I had to unfollow every page that was not feeding my soul in some way. And I’m glad I did.

    1. Yesss smart move! I actually didn’t even join social media until just recently when I started my blog! I try to be mindful to only use social media as a positive, as an effective way of spreading the Word of God!

      1. Yes! Definitely, that’s pretty much how I use my social media. It’s a great platform, why not use it to spread God and positivity.

  2. Anything that takes all your time limiting Gods time is not only distraction but an idol.
People think worshiping idol is only praying to a carved image. Anything you do that is in expense of God, anything that can make you forfeit God, is a distraction from the devil.

We need to put more time in reading the Scripture, praying always, fasting, attending services, teaching the Word etc.

    1. Thts exactly it! People don’t even see tht they are committing idolatry every day when they choose to put other things before God! We have got to stay mindful to keep God truly first, giving Him the firstfruits of even our time, not just giving Him a few seconds of prayer at night for bed. But really spending time with Him!
