Some of us are like babies as it relates to understanding the Word of God, still drinking milk rather than feasting on hardy meat. When we first come to Christ we are just learning the basics; the fact that Jesus loves us, died for us, and we must believe in Him to obtain life everlasting. This is the milk; and milk is good as it provides a basic form of nutrition to babies, keeping them alive and thriving.
However, at some point even babies make the transition from milk to solid food or meat. As we mature in the Lord, we also must get past the milk that bring us to Christ and get into the depths of the Word, the things that will KEEP us with Christ. Hebrews 5:13-14 (New King James Version) tells us that those who are on milk are unskillful in the Word of righteousness; but those who are on solid food are able to skillfully discern between right and wrong.
There are some sins that are very obvious, things that even a newcomer to Christ could probably identify as wrong. However, the enemy is very tricky and there are so many less obvious or subtle things that we engage in everyday which are sinful as well. To identify these things we need a deep understanding of the Word of God. And the only way to obtain this understanding is to get into the MEAT of the Word by INTENSE STUDYING!
Acts 17:11 (NKJV) talks about a people who were diligent in studying the Word as they searched the scriptures DAILY, finding the truth concerning matters that were preached unto them. The Word of God is our guide; we look to it to know the difference between right and wrong. II Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) tells us, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” If we want our works to be pleasing unto God, it is a MUST that we make the transition from MILK to MEAT, studying the Word and understanding more clearly what He requires of us!
Stay tuned for my next post as I talk about how to intensely study the Word of God! As always I pray these Words have blessed! Like/Comment/Follow/Share
