The Word of God: Our Map to Heaven

Picture this-without hesitation you depend on a map or GPS to get you to a particular destination. Let’s say you’re traveling from California to Florida; and you don’t know the way. You wouldn’t drive around for 5 or 6 hours, making all kinds of turns and going the direction you want to go, before checking your map or GPS. Of course not, you would probably check your map or GPS CONSTANTLY throughout your trip, making sure you are still on the right path. Right?!

Now, the Word of God is our map through life and HEAVEN is our destination. We don’t know the way to heaven on our own; but we must look to God for direction, consulting Him about every move or step we make in life. Psalm 37:23 (New King James Version) tells us that the steps of a righteous man are directed by the Lord. Then Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) declares this concerning God’s Word, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

So why do we think we can go days, weeks, or even months without reading the Word? God’s Word is full of instructions; and if we dig into it we can be assured to stay on the right path. II Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

People of God: we cannot afford to put down the Word! I encourage you to diligently stay in the Scriptures, so you can make it to that great destination of Heaven. Say this short prayer:

Lord, place within me the desire to study your Word day and night so I can know the way that is pleasing unto you. Help me to let go of my own plans, submitting to your will and letting your Word be a light to my path. Guide my every step and lead me to life everlasting. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
