Our Plans versus God’s Plans

I’ve been guilty of making my own plans and hanging much of my hope on them. One time I had this huge plan all fixed up; it was going to be a life changer. I was so excited as it became my fuel and kept me pressing through, even on harsh and unfulfilling days. For months I anxiously waited for my plan to come through. I just kept thinking: things will be so much better when everything comes together!

So guess what happened when my plan didn’t work out….I was left feeling empty, like I had nothing to look forward to! Now being the woman of FAITH that I am, I quickly checked myself. I knew better than this-I already knew that my HOPE should be in God rather than a plan I had put together on my own. To reassure myself I began to search the Word of God concerning plans. I found that Jeremiah 29:11 (New King James Version) says, “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” You see, God already has a plan for us and that plan involves such peace and goodness!

Now whose plan will you place your trust in-your own or God’s? Before you answer that question, let me remind you that our plans are NOT solid or guaranteed to come through. No matter how delicately we put them together, they can indeed fall through! But what plan of the LORD can any man cancel?! Isaiah 14:27 (NKJV) poses the questions, “For the Lord of hosts has purposed, and who will annul it? His hand is stretched out, And who will turn it back?”

Oh, the enemy may try to throw stumbling blocks even when you’re following through with God’s plan. However, those blocks will not stop what God has purposed-he will help you step right over them! You may be disappointed about a plan that has fallen through; but I encourage you to rest assured that God has the ULTIMATE plan. I urge you to pray for God to reveal his plan to you. Now don’t be discouraged if He doesn’t reveal it to you right away or in its entirety-you might get scared if God showed you ALL that He’s going to do with you at once. Nevertheless, just trust that whatever God’s plan is, it is far better than your own! And remember to continue to live according to His Word until He reveals His specific plan for your life to you!

Say this short prayer:

Lord, help me to understand that your plans for me are far greater than any plans I could ever imagine. Help me to surrender my own plans and seek you for the way that you have already prepared for me. And even when I don’t know your exact plans for my life, help me to rest assured that they are indeed good plans as you only delight in doing good towards your children. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen!

  1. AdriannaJ,
This is beautiful! I can completely relate. I sometimes get all worked up trying to figure out my whole life just to have so many things not go my way. I may not understand it in the moment or get frustrated, but God’s plan is perfect and always better than mine. It takes faith and patience! ❤️ What a wonderful reminder. Thank you! Ipuna

  2. Though it may tarry… it will surely come to pass. The plans and promises God has set for us are set already. It is up to us to choose to walk them out. And when we do, we’ll demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our lives for His Word never returns to him without fulfilling the work it was sent to accomplish.
    Glory to God, Hallelujah!!
    What a great reminder.
