Here lately God has been dealing with me, showing me the ABUNDANCE that I already have. Now when I say abundance I’m not talking about financial overflow or an accumulation of MATERIAL things. I mean abundance in love, joy, peace, and all the INTANGIBLE things that keep me alive and well. Whether it’s new cars, new clothes, or new homes; there’s always something new being made in this world. And if we are not careful, we will find ourselves always wanting MORE while failing to appreciate the things God has already blessed us with. We will find ourselves focusing more on the material things in life and looking to those things for happiness instead of looking to God.
Now don’t get me wrong, we need material things to survive. However, we should not allow the lack of material things to separate us from praising God and being happy or content in Him. Neither should we let any trial or tribulation quench our praise from going forth. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (New King James Version) instructs us saying, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” We should be doing these things in ALL situations, good or bad.
The apostle Paul even said he had learned to be CONTENT in every situation (Philippians 4:11-12 NKJV). While being hungry in the flesh He was FULL in his spirit, not full of EARTHLY meats but full of the Word of God and happy in the goodness of the Lord. Then Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) lets us know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God was good yesterday; and even though you may be lacking something or going through a trying situation, God is still good today and will continue to be good the next day and forever! So give Him the praise and be joyous in Him!
There’s nothing wrong with wanting your finances to grow, healing in your body, or that situation in your family to be fixed. However, I urge you to still BE CONTENT RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE; still giving God praise, still praying, and still holding on to your joy in the Lord until your breakthrough comes!
Say this short prayer:
Lord, help me to be content right where I am in life. Clothed or naked, full or hungry, help me to still rejoice and give you praise. Help me to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in all things give thanks. And in the midst of lack help me to understand that you will indeed sustain me in your Word. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
-To God be the Glory
