Prisoner of Hope: An Original Poem

I’ve failed to mention before that I’m a poet. Here’s a poem I wrote just this morning about hope. It’s inspired by Zechariah 9:12 (New King James Version) which says, “Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.”

I AM a prisoner of HOPE

But don’t feel sorry for me

A prisoner of hope is the only prisoner that is actually FREE

I’m free from darkness and discouragement

Yet bound by thoughts that things will only get BETTER

I’m held hostage by hope through times of sunshine and even stormy weather

Joy has taken captive of my soul

This righteous hope for GOOD has got a strong hold

I’m surrounded by hope on every side

Hope is all around

It’s crazy, I’m so happy while yet bound

I’m caged, tied down, and locked in

By thoughts of hope that say I will WIN

Oh I’m forced to see the brighter side

Of every situation that tries to break my stride

I AM a prisoner of HOPE

But PLEASE, don’t feel sorry for me

Being bound by the RIGHTEOUS hope of the Lord

I am made FREE

-To God be the Glory
