Let me just say what everybody already knows-nobody likes waiting! When we really want something, mostly likely we want it NOW or as soon as possible. While I can’t say I’ve ever actually enjoyed waiting, I can say after God finally granted me the desires of my heart I understood why the wait was NECESSARY. First of all, we must understand that Our Heavenly Father knows exactly what we have need of BEFORE we even ask (Matthew 6:8, New King James Version). And in His goodness He will indeed supply ALL of our needs. However, God also knows that sometimes we can’t handle the magnitude of the blessing we are seeking Him for at that particular time in our lives.
You see, if I hadn’t waited and worked for a lot of things I now have, I’m almost positive that I wouldn’t be so appreciative of them. And of course, when we lack appreciation for things we are more careless with them and more likely to lose them. Looking back, I realize that I learned some of my most valuable life lessons while waiting. I learned how BLESSED I already was, even in the midst of needed something else from God; and I learned how to be CONTENT. A lot of times we THINK we need things so badly. However, if we would only stop and really think about it, we would see that we are SURVIVING just fine without those things and will CONTINUE to survive until God sees fit to bless us with more.
I want to close with Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) which instructs us by saying, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.” Even though God already knows our needs, we can still show Him our faith by seeking Him though prayer and believing that He will indeed answer our prayers. Then in the midst of our diligent prayers, we should give God thanks for what He has already done and PATIENTLY WAIT for Him to do more.
I urge you to use your time of wait to learn something new in God, to grow in Him. And in the midst of your wait, God’s peace will keep you (Philippians 4:7, NKJV). Say this short prayer:
Lord, help me to diligently seek you through prayer for the things I want and need. Help me to have faith that you will indeed give me the desires of my heart according to your will. Help me to be thankful for the things I already have; and help me to understand that you will sustain me even in the midst of my need. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
-To God be the Glory
