The Church of God is simply a GROUP of people who wholeheartedly believe in God and work together to complete His good work. Now Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, is the HEAD of the Church and is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of how all believers should conduct themselves (Colossians 1:18, New King James Version). He was made flesh and suffered the same afflictions that we face every day; yet He sinned not and was without blame. He is indeed our leading example.
For this cause, the Bible also refers to The Church of God as The Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12, NKJV). Now our physical bodies have many parts or members such as the eyes, hands, and feet. Each body part has its own specific function; but all parts work together to keep us alive and ultimately form ONE body. Likewise, the Body of Christ is made up of many parts which form one body and have one mission of performing the COMPLETE work of God.
1 Corinthians 12:27-28 (NKJV) tells us, “Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.” You see, every member has a different function but all are vital to the completion of the Church.
What I really want you to take from this message is that YOU, yes you reading this post, the person who believes in Christ Jesus: YOU are the Church. Whatever your role may be, whether you’re a worship leader, usher, or just a faithful attender and tither; you are a member of God’s Church that makes it complete. And you don’t have to be inside the building we call Church to do the work of God or fulfil your calling. When you’re at work dealing with that difficult coworker, you are still the Church-you should still be doing the work of God. When you’re at home dealing with that unruly child or unfaithful spouse, you are still the Church-you should still let God’s glory shine through you.
Whether you’re in the building we call church, at home, or in your community; the calling God has placed on your life does not change. What God requires of us is the same inside the four walls we call church and outside those four walls. So I urge you to complete the work of God, walk like God, talk like God, and continue to be the Church of God wherever you go! WE, the believers of Christ, are indeed the Church and the Body of Christ!
Say this short prayer:
Lord, help me to be a member of the true Church. Help me to complete your good work wherever I may be and understand that the work of the Church extends far outside the building I call church. And I ask you to bind me together in love with other faithful believers who are willing to join forces with me to complete your good work. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
-To God be the Glory
