Many people may look at the UNHOLY man and envy him for the things he has. Though his ways are evil and He is not in right standing with God, he SEEMS to be quite successful, living a long and rather happy life. Meanwhile, the righteous man seems to live in poverty, suffer tribulation, and die young. Now I urge you to look past the surface of things and see who’s really WINNING; and before I go any further let me tell you it’s NOT the sinner man!
For the righteous man, to die is gain because He is present with the Lord in Heaven when He is absent from his body (2 Corinthians 5:8 and Philippians 1:21, New King James Version). So you see, even when the righteous man dies young he has not lost a thing! He is away from the troubles of this world and can now commune with God, face to face, in Heaven. Meanwhile the sinner lives long here on EARTH, foolishly enjoying the fruit of his evil works, not realizing that he will be punished with ETERNAL DAMNATION and MISERY in the afterlife. So who’s really winning?
Now the sinner man heaps up houses, cars, clothes, and treasures here on earth by lying and stealing; and he thinks he’s winning. However, he fails to realize that all those MATERIAL things will pass away and return back to the dust from which they came in the end. Though the righteous man may not have many treasures on earth, he has riches and glory in Heaven above (Matthew 6:19-20, NKJV); and that my friend will last forever! So who’s really winning?
Romans 8:18 (NKJV) says, “For I consider the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Though the righteous may suffer for a short time here on this earth, it will seem like NOTHING once we begin to experience ETERNAL goodness in Heaven with our Father. We’re talking about Heaven; the place where there’s absolutely no more pain or crying, no need for the sun to shine because God’s Glory will shine so bright, and streets are made of pure gold (Revelations 21, NKJV). Do you really think we will even have time to think about the LITTLE troubles we faced in the world once we are in that great city?! Of course not, so who’s really winning?
Let me encourage you-whether the sinner man receives his punishment here on earth or in the afterlife, know that God will repay! Ecclesiastes 12:14 says, “For God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing, whether it be good or evil.” The sinner will indeed receive his punishment for all his evil works and the righteous man will be REWARDED for his well doing. We believers in Christ will not lose a thing-we are WINNERS!
Say this short prayer:
Lord, help me to envy not the sinner man for anything that he has; but help me to understand that my richest and treasures are in Heaven above with you. Help me to continue to fear and obey you, knowing that my ultimate reward will come in the afterlife. And help me to be assured that I am a winner, more than a conqueror in You through Christ Jesus. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
-To God be the Glory,
