Of course we want to please God by doing GOOD works that are acceptable in His sight. However, let me be clear, God is also concerned with the INTENT of our HEARTS. You see, a person can do a good work but have a bad intention in their heart, secretly having selfish motivates. I Corinthians 13:1-3 (New King James Version) reminds us that even when we do many marvelous works and give all we have to the poor; if we don’t have LOVE in our hearts or the right intentions, it will profit us NOTHING.
Now let me remind you that God is a DISCERNER of hearts (Hebrews 4:12 & Jeremiah 17:10, NKJV). God knows what you’ve done and exactly WHY you’ve done it. So in all that you do, make sure you have the right intentions, intentions of selflessly uplifting others in the time of their affliction and pleasing your Father in Heaven. Now remember, no matter how many good works we do, we will always have some area that we fall short in. We may minister to others and give until we have no more to give; but on the other hand we may still struggle with fornication, a lying tongue, or some other sin.
So that’s why it’s so IMPORTANT to have a PURE heart towards God and the people we serve. Matthew 5:8 (NKJV) even tells us, “Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.” You see, God CONSIDERS IT ALL-He sees our sins, but He also looks at our works and our hearts. Now we can rest assured that God knows the difference between a person who truly wants to please Him but happens to fall short from time to time and a person who really has no desire to please Him. And we know that God’s end judgment, after considering all things, will indeed be fair.
So people of God, I urge you to get your heart right on today. Let’s put in all the work we can to serve others but let’s also WORK ON OUR HEARTS. Now there’s much work to be done….So let’s WORK IT!
-To God be the Glory
