In all my knowledge, wisdom, and understanding; in all the scriptures I know and good works I’ve done: I’m still not right. I still think, say, and do things I shouldn’t-I sin against God daily. It’s a bit frustrating at times because I know God has been so good to me. I often question myself, “Why can’t I just serve Him right?” I want to be right so I can make it to that great city called Heaven-so yeah, it’s frustrating to say the least! However, at the end of all my frustrations I’m left with the HOPE that in spite of all my wrongs, God will see all my sincere effort and have MERCY on me on the day of judgment. You see, God will take into consideration our every work, good and bad. However, our entry into Heaven is not based on our works only.
I believe God will also consider the INTENT of our hearts and discern whether or not we truly gave serving Him a hard enough try-this is the mercy of God. I believe this is why God instructs us repeatedly throughout His word to FORGIVE and be MERCIFUL toward one another. Perhaps He wants us to be merciful toward one another not only because it’s right but also because He knows how much we need His mercy now and even in the end. Now I know people can hurt us deeply and even do it intentionally; but today I encourage you to INTENTIONALLY forgive them and be merciful with them, just as God is merciful toward us all.
Even when people REPEATEDLY do you harm, knowing good and well it will hurt you, still forgive them! Don’t we repeatedly sin against God in full knowledge of the truth and He still forgives us?! I don’t know about you all, but in all my so called “goodness” I’m still not right and I need God to shed His mercy on me. I have a strong feeling that you need it too. So whatever hurt or grudge you may be holding on to today, I encourage you to LET IT GO! FORGIVE and BE MERCIFUL! And cling to the righteous hope that on the day of judgment God will likewise be merciful toward you!
