Vanity: New Perspective

What does a college degree with a successful career to follow really mean?

What does a beautiful family complete with a loving spouse and kids really amount to?

What does reaching any of our goals, attaining the big house/nice car, or living a “good” life really add up to?

I’ll answer these questions for you: living a good life means absolutely NOTHING and amounts to nothing but vanity IF we have not lived a life worthy of eternal life with our Father in Heaven. I’ve come to the same conclusion that the old wise King Solomon came to. He was the wisest King to every live and had observed ALL things in life, good and bad. He didn’t deny the fact that God indeed wants us to do good and also enjoy the fruits of our labor (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, New King James Version). Yet King Solomon’s whole thought or conclusion about life was this: a man’s most important duty or work is to FEAR the Lord and keep His law.

You see there’s nothing wrong with wanting to achieve your goals, get married, raise a beautiful family, and enjoy all the fruit of your hard work. However, no matter how good relationships, achievements, or any other earthy things may be; they will all PASS AWAY. And if we don’t have full assurance that we’ll receive ETERNAL goodness in the afterlife with our Father in Heaven, then we have nothing and everything we did while here on earth was in vain! So in closing, I want to encourage you to indeed enjoy life and all its goodness but remember to FEAR God lest your whole life be for nothing!

Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NKJV)

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, this is man’s all.

-To God be the Glory
