Adultery: Think About It Tuesday

We’ve ALL committed adultery. Oh yeah I said it; and its true! Now some of you may be thinking, “But how? I’ve never been married.” But oh let me correct you, you ARE married. In fact, we’re all married to God through Christ Jesus; yes we are JOINED to Him as one. Isaiah 54:5 (New King James Version) reminds us of this saying, “For your Maker is your husband, The Lord of hosts is His name; And your redeemer is the Holy one of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth.” God commanded us in Exodus 20:3 (NKJV) to put no other god before Him, in other words to be FAITHFUL in serving Him and HIM ALONE. Now any time we choose to put anything or anyone before God we are essentially “stepping out” on God or being unfaithful to Him, turning that thing into our god. We’ve all did this at some point or another.

Some of us put our sexual desires before the Lord as we choose to solely please our flesh, making our own sinful flesh our new god. Some of us put material things before God, choosing to do whatever we have to do to get money, clothes, and the latest devices. Then some of us turn other people, MERE PEOPLE, into our god as we seek to please them at any cost. Either way you do it, ANY time you put something before God, you are breaking your marriage covenant and being unfaithful to your God who has ALWAYS been faithful to you. Now isn’t it something that many of us can’t deal with infidelity in our own earthly relationships or marriages; but somehow we think it’s okay for us to keep CHEATING on God?!

We go out and cheat on God all day long, not even thinking about Him. However, when we need protection, healing, or a blessing of some sort; we go right back to our Heavenly Father, the one we KNOW will “hold us down.” Does this sound familiar to anybody?…Listen people of God: it’s time to STOP playing with God! Yes, God’s grace and forgiveness is there for us when we fall; but let’s stop using His grace as an excuse to sin or “step out” on Him. Let’s put in some real effort to stay away from those things that we know are not pleasing to God. Let’s be faithful to God just as He is faithful to us!

Again I say, we have ALL committed adultery…I know this is big pill to swallow, but THINK ABOUT IT!

Think About It Tuesday

Let’s Be Clear: Think About It Tuesday

Let’s be clear; EVERYTHING we need to know about how to live can be found in the Word of God! Now, there are several issues that may not be specifically or explicitly named and called wrong in the Bible; however, this does NOT mean these things are necessarily right.  Let me give you an example. We all know that backbiting or talking about people is a sin and it is not pleasing in the sight of God (Romans 1:29-31, New King James Version). Now in these modern days we have so many different ways to commit this same sin that people in the days of old could not. We can talk negatively about people through television, radio, social media, and even through phone conversations and text messages.

Now just because the Bible doesn’t explicitly say, “Thou shall not talk about people on Facebook or social media,” this does NOT make it right. Let’s THINK ABOUT IT! There are so many different sins and so many different ways to commit them; and the Bible is already a rather long book. Do you realize how much longer the Bible would be if it specifically called out every single way we could commit a particular sin? We must use or COMMON SENSE that God has given us and understand that no matter HOW we commit a sin, sin is still sin! Backbiting is a sin, no matter how it’s done!

No, every single wrong or evil thing may not be named but we can lean on several scriptures that clearly tell us what is GOOD and WORTHY of our thought and action. Philippians 4:8-9 (New King James Version) clearly tells that whatever things are FAIR, TRUE, PURE, and of GOOD REPORT; these are the things we should be thinking on and these are things we should be doing.  Then I Thessalonians 5:21-22 (New King James Version) instructs us saying, “Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”  So today I encourage you all to take an inventory of your life and all of your daily practices; whether they are religious, social, financial, or even sexual practices. Ask yourself, do my practices line up with truth, pureness, and goodness?

Now if your answer is No, I urge you to cut those practices out of your life and do NOT let the enemy fool you into thinking these things are pleasing in the sight of God just because they are not called out in the specific way that you may be doing them.  Oh yeah, I know this is a lot. It’s going to take some real spiritual maturity for you to consider what I’m saying. So take a moment, pray on it…and THINK ABOUT IT!

Time To Pray: Think About It Tuesday

When we look at the conditions of this world we can quickly see the NEED for prayer! Now I’m bold enough to believe that God will HEAL our land, just like He said He would IF we pray (2 Chronicles 7:14, New King James Version). But wait, let’s THINK ABOUT IT! The people who are causing the world to so cold by stirring up evil, they are NOT going to pray because they don’t know to pray. However, it is the PEOPLE OF GOD, the CHURCH OF GOD who should be busy praying! So with that being said here’s a poem I wrote concerning our need to pray. I encourage each and every one of you to say a prayer for this world after you read it!

Can somebody tell me what’s going on in the world today? There’s so much darkness on every side but the people of God still can’t seem to pray.

The Word of God tells us to pray always and never faint. Then God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that we should humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. And then Jesus said we can have anything if we ask for it in His name.

But now we got black men dying, the government’s lying, babies crying cus their daddies are nowhere to be found. Mothers doing anything just to make a dolla, their kids left with no direction so they holla.

People homeless, on the street with no food to eat, and no place to lay their head to sleep. Mothers turning on their own daughters, fathers brutally killing their own babies. So many people are lost and they just don’t know to raise their hands and say, “Jesus save me.”

Meanwhile every Sunday all the churches are filled up; but funny thing about it, Nobody’s prayed up. People of God, hear me good and hear now. It’s time to stand up! The Word of God tells us we’re in the last and evil days. So it’s time to get up, rise up; let’s pray!

Let’s call on the Lord for not only ourselves but for those who don’t know to call His name. And if we do this, I promise you, the world will NOT stay the same!

In Jesus’ name, it’s got to change! People of God: IT’S TIME TO PRAY!

Mercy: Think About It Tuesday

So we get mad at people and refuse to forgive them when they do us wrong OVER and OVER again. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about. We tell people the things they do hurt or frustrate us; and then we get furious when they CONTINUE to do it after we have already told them how we feel about it. Some nerve we have though, because we do God wrong and sin against Him DAILY; and what does He do?  He extends His MERCY and indeed FORGIVES us. Psalm 145:8-9 (New King James Version) tells us, “The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works.”

However, doesn’t God tell us over and over throughout His Word what offends Him? Doesn’t He encourage us to walk in the way of righteousness and clearly tells us the difference between right and wrong? Yet and still, we sin against Him and He continues to be all so merciful toward us. Now let me remind you that we should imitate God in ALL our ways-the way God treats us is the way we should treat others.

Now I’m not saying that people aren’t wrong in what they do, because sometimes people can do us harm and even be INTENTIONAL about it. Nor am I saying that we have to let people walk over or abuse us. However, what I am saying is that sometimes I believe we could be a little more merciful and patient with others just as God is toward us. And even in those times when we have to separate ourselves from those who hurt or offend us, we can still LOVE them just as God still loves us.

Yeah, this is a lot; and it requires a little MATURITY to actually apply it. But just take a moment…. THINK ABOUT IT!

Think About It Tuesday

The Veil: Think About It Tuesday

Think of a veil that covers a bride’s face as she walks down the aisle toward her soon to be husband. The veil keeps the groom from beholding the bride’s face in its fullness. However, through the veil he may be able to see bits and pieces of her face. Now the Old Testament of the Bible is much like the bride’s veil as it shielded the fullness of God’s GRACE and MERCY towards His people (2 Corinthians 3:15-18 and John 1:17, New King James Version).  You see, in the Old Testament the high priest was to sacrifice the blood of animals for the remission of the people’s sins EVERY year (Hebrews 9:7, NKJV). However, when God gave His only begotten son for us in the New Testament, this blood was indeed PRECIOUS enough to wipe out our sins once and for all and it showed us more CLEARLY how much God loves us (John 3:16, NKJV).

The fact that we can now go to God, through Jesus Christ, and receive forgiveness and everlasting mercy shows us a side of God that those in the Old Testament were not able to see as clearly. I am so glad Jesus died for us and removed the veil, allowing us to see God’s grace, mercy, and love more openly. However, I believe there is still another veil, so to speak, to be removed because we know according to John 1:18 (NKJV) no man has ever seen the face or fullness of God. God’s face is too glorious and too overwhelming great for us to behold its fullness in the flesh. However, we can see bits and pieces of God, His image, and His light through other people who have His Spirit within them and also through the mighty acts He performs.

Now even though we can’t actually look upon God’s face right now in the flesh, we have hope that we will one day see Him in the spirit. Luke 12:2 assures us saying, “For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.” One day we will indeed see God in His fullness, not in a mirror, or through a glass, not merely a glimpse or an image of Him; but face to face we will stand before the King. We will behold all of His goodness, all of His greatness, and at that moment the FINAL veil will be removed. My prayer is that on this day I will not only see His face but here Him say well done thy good and faithful servant. I pray this for you all as well!

Now until this great day, I think it is our duty to remove the veil as much as we can and let God show Himself to others through us. The kind word you could speak to someone, the helping hand you could lend, even your testimony of how God brought you through could remove the veil a little bit more for someone, allowing them to see God more clearly and revealing His Glory all the more. This is a lot, I know…just THINK ABOUT IT!

Think About It Tuesday

Moving Someday: Think About It Tuesday

So this past weekend I had the DRAINING task of moving. Now I really don’t have much besides the basic necessities such as a bed, sofa, kitchen table etc. However, even with just these things and a few extra things like decorations and lots of clothes/shoes, I was WORE OUT to say the least. I began to re-evaluate a lot of things asking myself, “Now do I really need this?” I seriously wanted to throw some stuff away just so I wouldn’t have to worry about moving it.  At one point my mom even asked if she could have one of my extra purses. I hesitated for a moment but then I quickly gave it to her. It was a mixture of my love for her AND the fact that this extra purse would be one more thing I’d have to move which led me to hand it over to her.

This frustration of moving caused me to think about the scriptures Matthew 6:19-20 (New King James Version) in which Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal.” You see, someday we’ll all be moving because earth is not our permanent home. So what sense does it make to accumulate and store treasures HERE when we CAN’T take any of it with us to our eternal home?

It makes me laugh to even think of times I’ve gotten upset or in a bad mood all because I couldn’t buy a new decoration that I wanted or a new outfit or purse. I wanted MORE things so badly only to consider throwing away the little things I already had when faced with moving! Funny, huh? This whole moving experience just opened my eyes to be more THANKFUL for what I already have and STOP stressing over what I don’t have. Sometimes I think I have little but I really have a lot and everything I feel I WANT is not always what I NEED. So today I encourage you to be satisfied with what you already have as well and strive to accumulate your treasures in Heaven by simply obeying God and doing His good works. If we all do these things, we can be sure to have some GREAT rewards waiting for us in Heaven!

Again, someday we’ll all be MOVING and hopefully Heaven will be our new eternal home. So work to store your treasures there……THINK ABOUT IT!

Think About It Tuesday

Spiritual Maturity: Think About It Tuesday

When we simply GROW UP and stop allowing petty things to bother us, many of our problems will go away and life will become much BETTER! Just think about it, sometimes we allow only MOMENTS with rude store cashiers, our friends, bosses, and significant others to provoke us to anger and ruin our ENTIRE day! Yes, we allow only a few unpleasant minutes to turn our whole day into a bad one-crazy, I know. Now there’s nothing wrong with being upset because at the end of the day we are HUMAN. We feel things and sometimes people can be cruel and intentionally do things to hurt us. However, the key is to not REACT in anger! Ephesians 4:26-27 (New King James Version) even tells us, “Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”

When we stay true to this scripture it allows us to take the offense that’s been thrown our way but keep right on being HOLY and having a GOOD day. You see, being MATURE or being the “bigger person” requires us to swallow our PRIDE; however, in the long run it only helps us to have a BETTER  and HAPPIER life. Now let me get to the anger and frustration that some people may have towards God when they don’t get exactly what they want and exactly when they want it. First of all, being angry with God is not going to make Him move any faster-He’s ALMIGHTY and He operates on His own time. In Acts 1:7 (NKJV) Jesus even tells His disciples, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.” Time belongs to God and all GOOD things happen according to His timing!

So sit back, relax, and just wait on God. Children often think the world revolves around them. I’m sure we’ve all seen a child fall to the floor and have a tantrum when they didn’t get something they wanted right away. Well, we ADULTS are basically acting the same way when we don’t get what we want. However, the reality of life is that the world DOESN’T revolve around us. In fact, the life we’ve been blessed with is for the purpose of giving God glory, lifting Him up and not ourselves (Isaiah 43:7, NKJV). So I challenge you to just think about the last time you got frustrated or angry about something. Whatever it was exactly, I’m sure the root problem was that you were not getting what you wanted. Now if you took the offense and still remained GODLY and kept right on having a good day, I SALUTE you. However, if you allowed this thing to pull you out of character and ruin your whole day, I ask you to inspect yourself and see what’s out of balance within yourself.

I know this is a lot. So just take a moment and THINK ABOUT IT!
